A US Marine Fears His Death From Water Poisoning May Leave His Family Destitute

The Department of the Navy has done nothing to process over 60,000 Camp Lejeune Justice Act Claims

Wednesday, July 5, 2023 - The promises of justice for the victims of Camp Lejeune water contamination and compensation for the survivors of those who have died from water cancer seem to have fallen on deaf ears. More than 60,000 Camp Lejeune Justice Act claims have been filed, and none have been settled, i.e., paid out administratively by the Navy. Each month tens of thousands of unpaid claims expire past the 6-month window the Department of the Navy had to settle them, allowing the claimant to file a Camp Lejeune Justice Act lawsuit seeking lump sum monetary compensation. Marines are dying in great numbers every month with unpaid claims, and veterans are afraid their survivors will be left out in the cold. One US Marine Corp Veteran stationed at Camp Lejeune for the required time during the 1970s thinks he may die before getting paid.

According to the-sun.com, " A former Marine has feared veterans allegedly exposed to toxic water at Camp Lejeune will go to the grave without getting justice. Martin Keimig was stationed at Camp Lejeune on two separate occasions in the 1970s before battling ill health decades later. Martin told The U.S. Sun that ex-Marines are "scratching and clawing" to get justice, slamming the political class. He said: "Politicians in Washington, DC, need to understand that men and women are dying. "Some are going to the graves without any justice." US Senator Marco Rubio from Florida has written to the Department of the Navy demanding answers. The Navy, in response, has said that they do not have the administrative capability nor the funds to handle all of the claims and would try to build an online portal where claims could be input and organized. Martin thinks that they could die suddenly, leaving their families without money needed to pay the bills. "I need to secure a future for my children. He told the sun. My days are numbered."What ticking time bomb is waiting for me down the road? And, I've got these other health issues going on too. So, it's just a slow drip."

Martin, like many others, feels the urgency to secure a future for his children, given his declining health. The uncertainty surrounding their conditions and the slow progress in addressing their claims intensify their anxiety. The question of what ticking time bomb awaits them down the road adds to their distress. The government must act swiftly and decisively to provide the justice and compensation these courageous Marines and their families deserve. The plight of these individuals should not be ignored, and a prompt resolution is necessary to alleviate their suffering and provide them with the support they so desperately need. In light of the backlog in cases, North Carolina judges have pledged to fast-track about 1000 Camp Lejeune lawsuits that have been filed with them already in what is being called a "rocket docket."
